Farming Smarter (formerly SARA & SACA)
farming smarter (formerly SARA & saca) is an organized group of producers, industry representatives and researchers from southern Alberta interested in improving the sustainability and efficiency of farming methods used throughout the region. Since 1994, Farming smarter (SARA) has provided a forum for the exchange of ideas between our members. We strive to ensure that producers are able to access answers to their production questions.
Mission:
To support profitable, environmentally sound Southern Alberta agriculture by creating innovative opportunities, adapting to merging issues and disseminating unbiased information.
Vision:
Farming Smarter's vision is to become the lead organization in Southern Alberta that advances agriculture through leadership in applied research and extension.
Based out of Lethbridge, Farming Smarter conducts a wide range of applied research projects within a geographic area of 14 million acreas. This region contributes 43 per cent of the total gross farm receipts for Alberta as the area includes almost all of the province's irrigated acreage, substantial acres dedicated to crops of very high value, high concentrations of livestock, and large areas of dryland cropping and pasture. With the close proximity of transport links and population centres, Farming Smarter's region includes many value-added industries.
